Here's something.....

I have been meaning to show you this for a while. A few weeks ago we had a little get together where we decided to follow our own devices, can't remember now but I think we all started with a piece of calico. Unfortunately I can't show you what the others did but this is my piece. The figure is painted onto calico and appliqued and the background is hand needle felt.

My piece was inspired by a painting by Rima of The Hermitage.
Because I was actually working from the picture I asked Rima if she would mind me using it, she generously gave permission. This is the delightful piece that inspired mine and I bought a copy of it and a picture for a present for a friend from her etsy shop.

It is called "Soup and Pipe"
I have no affiliation other than that I love her work and the tales of her fascinating lifestyle, if you have never visited with her do take a peek.

No, now I'm really in love......

Today I became the proud owner of a Pfaff 350p Embellisher. I have dreamed of owning an embellisher for some time now but on Saturday at the EG SE area day I watched a demonstration by the lovely lady from Winifred Cottage and that was it, I decided the time had come. Today we went to Sewmaster in Guildford and

I haven't had much time to play but this is what I have done so far.

This was the "wrong" side a piece that I had done by hand (see the postacard in the previous post). I was amazed how quickly it was smoothed out and how much more robust it became.

This was the raw ingredients of my first experiment. A cheap duster and some bit pulled out of a cheap scarf.

This is the resulat and is destined to be the background for this weeks TAST, buttonhole wheels.

This is two threads joined together, making a whole new piece which could be added to something else.

This is just pieces or organza from my bits bag.

Such fun!! The Pfaff has no foot lever so I keep finding myself reaching behind to lower the foot with no result. The other habit thing is trying to cut off the thread when you have finished.

I love it, I will try not to bore you to death as I get to grips with it.

Just a quickie...

Just a quickie for TAST this week, Knotted Cretan, I can see what a great textural stich this would be, lots of movement too.I quickly needle felted a piece of previously dyed scrim and couched it down with the Knotted cretan with a sparkly thread.

Still dusting.........

Those who know me will fall about laughing at the idea!!

What I mean is that I am still finding things to make and do with my packet of cheap dusters.

No not a postcard

a new needle book! I quite like the accidental background too. I had fogotten that I had put polythene on my work table when I has using my heat gun!

More duster

This is another piece of cheap duster (see below) I have called this one April showers. I needle felted a little bit of silk for the clouds and machine and hand stitched the "rain". The flowers are cotton lace which I painted.
