Just finished........

"Un Lun Dun" by China Mieville.

Loaned to me by my a son as being in the "suitable for mother" category it is actually written for children/young adults (which is probably why he thought it was suitable).  It is the best read I have had in a long time.  Exciting and funny it sparks the imagination.
Mr Mieville "has indicated that he plans to write a novel in every genre,[2]"
I understand from my son that I definitely would not like some of his books so I told him to let me know if he, Mieville, ever attempts chick lit .

P.S. I would have been interested in "Supersized Earth" on BBC last night but the "background" music was so loud I couldn't hear what the man was saying.  Why do they do this????

Cold enough for you?.......

This is just one of some stunning photographs of Russia which I found from a link on Les passions de Solange

Can any one tell me what "incentivising" means heard in a BBC Television News report? Because I didn't know "incentive" was a verb!!

Background noise...

I have just watched the BBC documentary on the installation of the exhibition of the Terracotta Army at the British Museum. I am so looking forward to seeing this exhibition but this programme was ruined for me by the invasive "background" music which made it impossible, at times, to hear the commentary!!!

Dumbing down.......

Facts I thought I knew were true:

1. The BBC is one of the most respected television networks in the world.

2. The post of Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdon is a very important.

Therefore, can somebody please explain to me why the candidates for this post were presented to us on the BBC 6 o'clock news as though they were taking part in the latest "reality" television programme. Would we,otherwise, not be able to understand?

Look what we've got.......

This will confuse the geraniums!
Incidentally if I can take a photograph and send it winging round the world in five minutes, why does it take over four weeks for my x-rays (which the operator boasted were going straight on computer, and I saw them) to reach my doctors which is half a mile down the road????????????

Dumbing Down

Isn't it amazing that the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) which used to be a by word for quality in broadcasting can devote hours of prime time television to so called"reality" shows and yet it schedules a the 650th edition of "the Sky at Night" at 1.55am. Patrick Moore is one of our National Treasures,he has been presenting the show for nearly 50 years, a record by anyones standards. Come on Beeb you can show a little more respect than this.
